I started working with die-cut vinyl directly on the wall in 2016. The imagery comes directly from paintings. There was something missing though, and I introduced shelves with objects on them. This did two things. 1. Its gave a scale to the work. 2. It was a way to bring things from outside of the work directly into the installation.
Fashion, Product Display, Design and Interior Decoration have been huge inspirations in the past 10 years and I have been referencing them but not fully embracing them. These installations, with the loose and ongoing title "Lovers Medley", incorporate Books, Vinyl Records, T-shirts, Flowers in Vases and even a vintage 1979 baby blue Smith and Corona Typewriter. These are items from my personal collections. In "A Little Green", included in the show Abstract Wall Paintings III at Transmitter gallery in Bushwick, Brooklyn, I displayed a portion of my Sci-Fi book collection (around 100 books, half which is Robert A. Heinlein).
This crossover between Design/decor and Art Installation is akin to my imagery which addresses the overlap between Visual Communication and Ornamentation.
The next step will be a fully immersive environment with Coi ponds, tea ceremony, chill room and a hyperbolic time chamber.
